Deer Ridge Real Estate Information

The South Calgary community of Deer Ridge has a rich history, as it was part of the second largest annexation to the city in 1961. Once Fish Creek Park was established twelve years later in 1973, developers were able to start building on what is now the community of Deer Ridge.

Builders broke ground in 1978, creating a mix of developments including single-family homes, condos, townhouses, row-houses, and duplexes. Estate homes were also built along the ridge to accommodate luxury home buyers as well.

Today, Deer Ridge is a popular outer suburb of Calgary that attracts buyers who are looking for natural surroundings and beautiful views of the Bow River. Most homes for sale in Deer Ridge have traditional architectural designs, although many buyers have begun to renovate to create a more modern and contemporary appearance.

On the exterior, landscapes are well-kept and offer curb appeal that’s in perfect harmony with the rest of the neighbourhood. With the beauty of homes and allure of nature, it’s easy to see why owning real estate in Deer Ridge is a popular choice for home buyers today.

Deer Ridge Amenities and Highlights

The Deer Ridge Community Association is at the core of the safe and quiet neighbourhood. Throughout the year they plan and host events as well as programs that benefit neighbourhood residents of all ages.

From Red Cross Babysitters Courses at the Deer Park United Church to family winter skating, there's always something going on within the community. There's even a community garden that residents can get involved with and grow all types of fruits and vegetables.

Deer Run Elementary is the school that most children attend, as there is a bus that services the neighbourhood. For older children, there are junior high and high schools as well as private schools available for parents to choose from.

The main area for shopping is the Deer Valley Shopping Centre, which is packed with a variety of retail stores. Insurance offices, clothing boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and even dental offices are just a few of these businesses. This shopping centre is within walking distance for most residents, although it can be biked to as well.

Deer Ridge Activities

Deer Ridge is in close proximity to Fish Creek Provincial Park and can be reached via the Bow Bottom Trail, Canyon Meadows Drive, or the city’s pathway system. Once at the park, visitors can picnic, swim during the summer, hike, bike, walk trails, and do a wide variety of other activities. There’s even an environmental learning centre, cafe, and restaurant within the park so visitors can make a day of it.

Also located near Deer Ridge and within Fish Creek Park is the beautiful man-made Sikome Lake. Surrounded by trails as well as picnicking areas, this is a popular spot to spend summer days in the area. These recreation spots are prime reasons why home buyers choose this community over the many others in the area. However, they also enjoy the quick access to Deerfoot Trail via Bow Bottom Trail, which will take them downtown or to neighbouring areas in minutes.
