However, this changed in 1991 when the neighbourhoods were separated into Upper North Haven, Thorncliffe, and Greenview.

The neighbourhood is also home to a public library and is a short 8km distance from the University of Calgary, Alberta Children's Hospital, McMahon Stadium, and Foothills Medical Centre. SAIT is another higher education option that's east of the University of Calgary and only 6.5km from Thorncliffe.


Thorncliffe Recreation

As one of the communities that helped to protect Nose Hill Park and make it an environmental reserve, it's easy to see why residents here have a special relationship with this park. Fortunately, it's only a few minutes away and can be accessed via the pathway system.

Once visitors enter this park they can enjoy all the open space that it offers for recreation, sports, and activities. Within the community itself, there are also several parks, including Laycock Park on the eastern border. This has pathways for exercise, large mature trees, and plenty of open space for activities. There are also playgrounds within the area for children of all ages to enjoy.

The Thorncliffe-Greenview Community Association the serves this neighbourhood adds enrichment to everyday life for residents here. They host activities all throughout the year for children, teens, adults, and seniors.

In addition to this, the community centre has recreational space for group activities, a hockey rink, a tobogganing hill, a baseball diamond, a playground, and a 4-lane bowling alley. In addition to this, the Thornhill Aquatic & Recreation Centre is immediately north of the neighbourhood along Centre St. N.

There are many options for golf in close proximity, including Confederation Park Golf Course to the southwest, McCall Lake Golf Course to the southeast, Beddington Golf Park to the north, and Country Hills Golf Course to the northwest. Another excellent recreation spot is the Highwood Outdoor Pool, which is minutes away from the community on Holmwood Ave NW.
