Collingwood Real Estate Information
First annexed in 1910 before being established in 1959, Collingwood has been a gem in the city for quite some time. By 2014 the population had grown to just over 2,300 residents who were living in 953 dwellings.
The majority of the homes were single-family properties while around 25% were apartments, condos, and townhouses. The versatility of the styles applies to their ages, with some properties dating back to the time the community was established with others having been recently built.
However, most of the homes in Collingwood do have a country style, including those that have been recently renovated to achieve more modern amenities and designs indoors.
Collingwood Amenities and Highlights
The numerous roads that surround this community make it easy to travel anywhere within the neighbourhood or even the city. John Laurie Boulevard in particular is one of the best access roads that can take residents all over the neighbouring communities while 14 St NW is excellent for the 15 minute trip to the downtown area. There are also a variety of shops on the opposite side of 14 St NW, including a bank, pizza place, pharmacy, game shop, and more.
For more retail store options, North Hill Centre is less than 10 minutes to the south of the community. This is one of the most popular shopping centres in the area and is next door the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.
Market Mall is an additional option, as it's 4.5km to the west and has over 200 retail and dining options.
While there are many healthcare services in the surrounding communities, the Alberta Children's Hospital and Foothills Medical Centre are two of the biggest centres that are roughly five minutes to the west. Both are next to the University of Calgary.
Within Collingwood itself, there are many convenient amenities that residents can enjoy. This includes a pub, drive-inn, tire store, convenience store, and small restaurants.
There are also several education facilities, including Collingwood School, St. Margaret Elementary/Junior High, and St. Francis High School. The University of Calgary is just minutes to the west across Crowchild Trail NW. Religious services are also in close proximity, with Canadian Martyrs Church on Northmount Dr. NW.
Collingwood Recreation
Those who live in Collingwood are only steps away from the beauty that Nose Hill Park has to offer. Being on the southern edge of this massive park also means they're near the Calgary Winter Club, which is home to indoor fitness facilities for a wide variety of sports.
For even more outdoor recreation, the Confederation Park is situated on the southern edge of the community. Featuring over 400 acres, this park also has picnicking areas, a baseball diamond, tennis court, cycling pathways, tobogganing hills, and many more amenities. This park just happens to be situated next to Confederation Golf Course, offering golf enthusiasts an excellent place to play in close proximity.
Collingwood residents are also nearby some of the best arenas in all of Calgary, whichise next to the University of Calgary and 3.6 km to the west. The McMahon Stadium is one of the most popular spots to watch sports, although
The Volleydome and Norma Bush Arena are both excellent resources as well. In addition to this, the Foothills Athletic Park is located in this area. This features a baseball field, track, soccer field, tennis courts, ultimate Frisbee area, and open fields.
