Lake Bonavista Real Estate Information

Located in the beautiful Southeast quadrant of Calgary lies the lakeside community of Lake Bonavista. Built in the 1960s by Keith Construction Company. Lake Bonavista was one of the first man-made lakes in Canada and it served as a prototype to many developers in the years to come.

This charming neighbourhood encompasses the qualities that any buyer would want in a place to live. It’s quiet, safe, in a great location, and has homes that are designed based on individual preferences.

While most are single-family properties that have recently been updated and renovated to reflect modern designs, it’s still easy to find those that have that adorable 60’s flair. This along with beautiful condominiums nearby Macleod Trail has created a nice mix of modern and old school that appeals to a wide variety of different buyers.

Buyers who want to be close to the action of the city will enjoy living in Lake Bonavista. It’s bordered by Macleod Trail to the west, Anderson Road to the north, and Bow Bottom Trail to the east. This makes it easy to travel to downtown, other communities, and just about anywhere else in Calgary one could want to go.

Within the neighbourhood, residents enjoy peace and tranquillity that’s only found in a place that’s surrounded by nature. The two man-made lakes, named Lake Bonaventure and Lake Bonavista, are specifically the two crown jewels that add to the peace, quiet, and beauty.

Known for offering some of the best amenities in Calgary, Lake Bonavista is an enjoyable place to live. It has immediate recreation opportunities but does not limit residents because of the ample entertainment and restaurants just minutes away. With well-designed landscapes and a mix of unique homes added in, this only makes this neighbourhood more appealing to buyers in southeast Calgary.

Amenities and Highlights of Lake Bonavista

The next is Avenida Shopping Centre, which has a wide variety of restaurants as well as an art gallery and more.

At the southwest corner of the community is where all the entertaining takes place. Canyon Meadows movie theatre is very popular for its affordable entry fees. Right next to the theatre is a fitness centre, a kid’s fun, and play house and for the grown-ups a billiard’s place to enjoy with friends.

Public transit is easy for residents to take advantage of if they want to travel to nearby communities or the many shopping centres that are located nearby. The Canyon Meadows C-train station is conveniently located on the west side of the community taking traveller either north towards Downtown Calgary or down south towards Shawnessy.

Lake Bonavista Recreation & Things to Do

Lake Bonavista has a wide variety of things to do in the neighbourhood itself. This includes a local community centre that has soccer, yoga, fitness, skating, and hockey facilities. It also has canoeing and fun classes hosted all throughout the year for people of all ages.

The community association is responsible for hosting these classes as well as regular events, canoeing lessons, and more. In addition to this, there are playgrounds sprinkled throughout the grounds along with rolling green meadows of grass.

Something truly special about living in Lake Bonavista is the fact that residents can walk outside their back door and instantly be connected with nature and go to the beach! The lake is exclusively reserved for locals and has a large fence secured around the perimeter. Once inside, visitors can enjoy swimming, fishing, and rowboats.

The water is only 20 feet deep so it stays relatively warm and turns into a solid skating path during the winter. Due to the fact that it’s constantly filtered and aerated, it’s also sparkling clean and a great place to fish during warm or cold weather.

For those who want to explore a more unrefined terrain, they can walk just minutes away to the nearby Fish Creek Provincial Park. This public park has large open spaces where visitors can enjoy outdoor pathways, trails, and barbecue areas. It also houses Sikome Lake that’s equipped with picnic benches and other open spaces for visitors.

Just a short walk back to the community and residents can enjoy the beautiful grounds outside the homes that are complemented by the fun athletic centres inside the community centre. Even the basketball courts turn into ice rinks in the winter for year-round fun!
