Valley Ridge Real Estate Information

While Calgarians today won't remember this history, some may remember when the land was used as Happy Valley Campground in 1959. Ran by local businessman Ernie Lutz, campers who came here enjoyed pools, go-carts, mini golfing, and lots of fun outdoor activities. Unfortunately, this campground was short-lived, as Lutz sold in 1967 after falling ill.

Falling into the hands of a Hollywood association, the land soon deteriorated and lost the allure it had in the past. This led to its sale several times until Barbican Developments purchased it in 1990 to create a golf community.

After being officially named Valley Ridge, the first homes were built in 1993 and that construction continued in 18 different phases. From the beginning of development, the properties here proved to be popular as residents flocked to the area. This led to a population of 4,000 residents in 1999, increasing to 5,518 in 2014. The beautiful landscaping throughout the neighbourhood only makes it better but doesn't trump the views homeowners have of the Bow River Valley, Canada Olympic Park, and golf course.

The styles of real estate in Valley Ridge varies depending on the area purchased in, as each phase in the community produced unique architecture from builders. However, it's common to see single-family homes, bungalows, townhouses, and condominiums as well.

Prices of these have held strong over the years, with properties ranging from $400,000 to well into the millions. The vast majority of these are simply stunning both outside and inside, keeping up with the overall high-end look of the community.

Valley Ridge Recreation

Recreation is one of the top reasons why residents move to this beautiful community. The 18-hole golf course that's placed along the river is one of the most popular spots in particular, especially for the homes that back into it. It features a lounge and club where players can grab a bite to eat or relax outside of the course.

On the northern border of the golf course lies the stunning Bow River. There are a number of pathways surrounding this where residents can enjoy beautiful views and open space for relaxation throughout the year. The river is also a popular spot for boating swimming when the weather outside is warm.

Just 2.4 km to the south is the Calgary West Campground, which has a heated pool, nature trails, gift shop, mini-golfing, and more for campers in RVs or tents. To the east of this are many more recreational amenities, including the Calgary Gymnastics Centre and Winsport.

For more outdoor activity opportunities, residents can take part in the many events that are hosted by the community association. This includes soccer, football, and many other sports activities for residents.

The community has also started creating an outdoor fitness park that will have equipment such as a push-up station, fitness rack, chest press, and skill trainer for residents to use.
