Charleswood Neighbourhood Info

Established in 1959, Charleswood has seen many changes over time. These changes include steady growth, which led to a population of 3,646 residents living in nearly 1,450 homes by the year 2014. An over 1% increase from the previous year, it’s clear that those who live here stay here and buyers have remained eager to move here when they find homes on the market.

When it comes to the type of real estate in Charleswood, there's quite a bit of versatility with condominiums and apartments situated throughout a large number of single-family homes. Some of these properties date back to the 60’s while others have been recently built or renovated to reflect more updated appearances. The prices of these vary greatly, ranging from the mid $500,000's to well over $1 million. Condos and apartments tend to be more affordable, although they do not come on the market as often as single-family homes. One thing that all properties have in common is the fact that homeowners take great pride in them and work hard to maintain landscaping and interior appearances.

Whether a home buyer has a taste for a classic home with charm from the 60s and 70s or a modern and updated luxury home, Charleswood is the community that has it. In addition to this, the streets are kept clean, there's a lot of greenery, and there's a strong sense of safety.


Charleswood Neighbourhood Amenities and Highlights

Homes in Charleswood aren't far from all that the northwest quadrant of Calgary has to offer. In fact, it's just east of the Brentwood Village Shopping Centre that's situated in the southside of the neighbouring community of Brentwood. The University of Calgary is also adjacent to the neighbourhood, along with Alberta Children's Hospital, Foothills Medical Centre, and a number of restaurants/bars. For even more shopping opportunities, the North Hill Centre is a mere 3km to the southeast and downtown is a short 15-minute drive. While residents can easily drive to these locations, public transportation is easily accessible via the stops that are situated throughout the community.

Immediately within the community, there are additional amenities that residents can reach. This includes restaurants such as The Blue House, a salon, a convenience store, and more. When it comes to education, the community is served by Collingwood Elementary, Banff Trail Bilingual Elementary, Senator Patrick Burns Junior High, St. Francis Senior High, and St. Margaret Elementary & Junior High. SAIT is also just minutes away, making a convenient alternative to the University of Calgary.


Charleswood Recreation

Within Charleswood there are several parks, beginning with Triwood Park and the large meadow that's immediate to the west of it. Both of these offer ample space for outdoor play for residents, although it's not surprising that many enjoy hanging out at Nose Hill Park that borders the north. With pathways, wildlife, a winter club, the river, and tons of recreational space, this park is one of the best treasures in the City of Calgary. Canmore Park and the Confederation Park Golf Course also border Charleswood, just on the southeast corner. The park in particular is popular because it has a spray park, wading pool, outdoor pool, ball diamond, and tennis courts. The golf course has a two-tier driving range and 9-holes for enthusiasts to enjoy during the summer.

The area to the southwest of Charleswood (just next to the University of Calgary) is another excellent resource for outdoor play. It contains Foothills Athletic Park, McMahon Stadium, the Olympic Oval, Norma Bush Arena, The Volleydome, and Foothills Stadium. Travelling further down south leads to the beautiful bow river which is surrounded by the pathway for walking, biking, or running alongside the water. Even with all of this in such close proximity, most residents of Charleswood enjoy staying near home because they have such an excellent community association. It regularly hosts events for residents of all ages, whether it's tai chi for seniors or a soccer game for children.
