Inglewood Real Estate Information

Holding the distinctive title of Calgary's oldest community, Inglewood has roots that date back to its establishment in 1875. The recognizable names of the settlers who were responsible for the development included: James Macleod, Major John Stewart, and Acheson Irvine.

Although the name of this neighbourhood is now well- known as Inglewood today, it wasn’t actually adopted until 1911. Originally it was known as Brewery Flats (or East Calgary) until ranch manager Colonel James Walker’s red-brick home (named “Inglewood”) was adopted as the official community name.

Real Estate & Condos in Inglewood

Most original landowners in Inglewood were ranch owners until the development of major plants such as Cross' Calgary Brewing and Pat Burns' Meat Packing Plant. This is when the community started to flourish and expand with an influx of new residents.

The majority of homes built during this time were single-family dwellings, although there is a small number of apartments as well. Within the neighbourhood, it's easy to see homes that reflect the architecture and home designs of the 20th century, although there are new developments that have added modern and refreshing designs to attract a wider variety of buyers.

With a location that's situated east of the Elbow River as well as downtown, it's easy to see the draw of Inglewood today. Being close to incredible amenities, tourist attractions, and recreation makes it ideal for just about anyone living in Calgary.

The hustle and bustle of the nearby attractions do not extend to the neighbourhood itself. Homes in Inglewood remain tucked in quiet harmony for residents to enjoy peace and quiet while they're at home.

One of the most noticeable buildings in Inglewood is the Community Centre, which resembles a large igloo. This is where residents go to have meetings, join community events, and meet other neighbours. It's situated right next to the Jessie Palmer Memorial Building and spacious skating rink.

Also in close proximity is the Slovenian Canadian Club that hosts activities, lunches, and picnics throughout the year. When it comes to churches, there are many to choose from within the community for people of all faiths. There are also several schools in the community as well as those that are located nearby.

Those who want to shop will find a variety of restaurants and shops on Ninth Avenue SE. There are many banks, health care offices, and other businesses located just around these for even more convenience for residents.

With Inglewood's close proximity to downtown as well, it's easy to access the ample shopping, restaurants, and other types of businesses that only downtown Calgary has. Music also plays a major role in the culture of Inglewood, with venues offering local musicians a chance to play their music for residents and businesses. This neighbourhood is also the headquarters of the incredibly popular Calgary International Folk Festival.

Another major attraction for music lovers in Inglewood is the annual event of Sunfest. This is an annual one-day event that offers outdoor shopping, live music, pie-eating competitions, and other exciting events for residents and visitors alike. Inglewood Recreation Activities

Inglewood is situated in the Southeast quadrant of the city where the beautiful Elbow and Bow Rivers meet together. This offers residents ample recreational opportunities on the Bow River Pathway and the various parks that are lined around these rivers as well. In addition to this, the community is very close to the Fort Calgary Historic Park.

In order to recognize this, the City of Calgary adopted it in 1970 to turn into a stunning bird sanctuary. It's now home to over 270 species of birds as well as 300 plants, making it a wonderful place to visit any time of the year.
